Abolition of the paper counterpart licence
From 8th June 2015 the paper counterpart to the UK photocard driving licence will not be valid and will no longer be issued by the DVLA. ‘Old style’ UK paper based licences will still be valid, however they will no longer be annotated with endorsements.
This change will have no impact on Fourways’ booking and hire procedures where a customer wishes to use their own insurance, but we would urge customers to ensure they review their own internal procedures and liaise with their insurance company in line with this change.
However, where a customer wishes to book a hire using the renting company’s insurance, there will be additional procedures that the driver will need to follow in order for the renting branch to verify that the driver will be covered to drive on the renting company’s insurance.
This change is being interpreted differently by all of our suppliers and therefore we will be closely monitoring each individual booking made where insurance is required. We will liaise closely with our customers and drivers where appropriate, to make sure they are fully briefed of what will be expected of them in order to ensure a smooth vehicle handover.
Please do not hesitate to call us for more information on this change and how it will affect your rental requirements, alternatively you can visit: https://www.gov.uk/government/news/driving-licence-changes for more information.
